Autumn Issue

Exciting news: Pipeline's second issue of the year, the Autumn Issue, is here! In this issue, you'll find a wealth of insights and information to help you navigate your journey this academic year.

Here's a sneak peek at what you'll find inside this issue:

Right off the bat, we have messages from key figures – including Omar Matar (Head of Department), Paul Fennell (ChemEngSoc President), Ronny Pini (ChemEngSoc Vice President), and Eghosa Atti (Student Wellbeing Advisor) – kickstarting the new academic year on an inspiring note. Bid farewell to Chris Tighe, our former ChemEngSoc Vice President, and honour his dedication by tuning in to the latest Chem Eng pop hits.

Get acquainted with the faces behind ChemEngSoc and the Department Representatives, endlessly working behind the scenes to organise a fun and fulfilling year ahead for you! In this section, you'll also discover the incredible opportunities within the society and its affiliations. Rebecca Fayad, one of our Industrial Relations Officers, will introduce you to the career initiatives offered by ChemEngSoc, opening doors to a promising future in Chemical Engineering. Don't miss your chance to be a part of ChemEngSoc events and external relations subcommittees! For more details about these roles, hear directly from Rebecca Fayad and John Adeyemi as they share their experiences from last year. If you're interested in beer, you can uncover the art of brewing with like-minded peers in BrewSoc. Additionally, dive into our affiliations, ChemEngWeekly and Towards Net Zero, which aim to shape the future of chemical engineering.

A new year undoubtedly comes with new challenges, so our next section provides valuable insights from those who've walked the path you're currently on. Check out the articles by Marieke De Bock, Xuanyong Tay, Ajai Gill and Hana Khatib to pick up essential tips and tricks. Explore the enriching experiences of Chiara Mauri, Michael Gadaloff, and Diketso Karas, who've embarked on summer UROP and Year Abroad across the Atlantic to expand their horizons.

Last but not least, discover the best ways to make the most of your time in London during the colourful autumn season. If the course is not challenging enough, exercise your mind with Nonogram puzzles to secure your spot on the Pipeline Leaderboard. But if it gets overwhelming, Uncle B is here to impart any wisdom you need, from academics to life dilemmas.

THANK YOU to the amazing Pipeline team – Eylül Akgök, Angelina Jia, and Koyna Bajaj – for putting together this exceptional issue! You can access the digital version here: tinyurl.com/PLNAN.

The Freshers' Issue

The Pipeline team is proud to present the first Pipeline issue of the year: The Freshers Issue! This issue was specially curated for our incoming Freshers & MSc students to help make this transition smoother for them.

To start, we have a few welcoming words from Prof. Omar Matar (Head of Department), Dr Colin Hale (First Year Chairman), Eghosa Atti (Student Wellbeing Advisor) and Radhika Nyayadhish (ChemEngSoc Chair).

The next section serves as a guide for the incoming students to learn about the ins and outs of the department and society. Don't miss the Imperial Chem Eng Glossary, which compiles all the need-to-know words and phrases in just three pages! If you'd like to know more about what to expect this coming year, check out the Freshers' Guide by Katy Knoyle and the MSc Guide by Niroshan Ganeshan. We also have personal accounts on ChemEng Families, the MSc experience by Ali Fyfe and the First Year Academic Representative experience by Alice Zhu. Following that, the ChemEngSoc section showcases opportunities available within the society, such as the events & external relations subcommittee and the experimental beer brewing club.

Of course, the guide would not be complete without the top spots to visit around London and cooking tips! And lastly, we've organised a friendly Freshers Bingo, which will take you all around the relevant rooms in the department building.

We hope this issue proves useful at the start of this journey you're embarking on. A special thank you to the team – Eylül Akgök, Angelina Jia & Koyna Bajaj – who worked hard over the summer to make this issue possible! You can access the digital version here: tinyurl.com/PLNFR.
